Anna
“Anna” was completed in 2005 as part of an exhibit entitled “Enlightened Perspectives” shown at Agora Gallery in Soho, New York in which I was the featured painter of an international exhibit. My work was reviewed in Gallery and Studio magazine (http://www.reginamiele.com/gallery_studio.jpg) in the April/May addition. Subsequent to the initial showing “Anna” was displayed in Washington, DC as part of a Mid City Artists group show and featured in the Washington Post, (http://www.reginamiele.com/washpostimage.jpg). Her most recent showing before being held in private collection was in an exhibition entitled “Celebrating Women’s History Month, Women Artists in the District” March 2008.

"Potomac Nocturne"

"Southern Exposure"
I was thrilled and honored to be invited to represent the U.S. at the 2009 Florence Biennale, the invitation can be viewed at the following link (http://www.reginamiele.com/Biennale.pdf). It represented an incredible opportunity to exhibit internationally and return the city I love and where I learned to paint as a student at Lorenzo Di Medici International University. The paintings were incredibly well received resulting in exhibition opportunities in NY at the Broadway Gallery this fall as well as Paris and Izmir, Turkey in May 2011.

I am excited to finally be offering prints of some of my work.
The choice of paintings for reproduction has been limited to those that are not my only my favorites, but also paintings which I still have access to as originals. While Giclee prints can be produced from a digital file I have chosen the museum quality process which involves scanning the original to create the truest most vibrant image. After the scanning is complete, I will return to the printer to oversee the color correction process. This is done in a “dark room” with color calibrated monitors and then taken as a hard copy to a “light room” calibrated to 5000 Kelvin which replicates noonday light. While this initial set up process is both time consuming and expensive I want the prints to be congruent with the originals, oil on lead primed linen, and the quality of work produced in my studio
Giclee printers use archival inks which make the archival properties of giclees much higher than lithography or silkscreen prints, increasing their colorfastness to a 200 year life span. The final prints will be coated with an additional UV spray in order to replicate the varnish quality of the originals as well as create a protective barrier. They will be gallery stretched on canvas and will not need additional framing in order to hang.
“Canvas Prints (giclees) do not need to be framed with protective glass so the image can be seen clearly without bothersome glares. The natural texture of the canvas gives to the print the exact look and feel of an original oil painting. Also, Canvas Prints (giclees) are tougher and far more durable than paper prints” Colour Art Publishers
“Giclée printing is the perfect method for Fine Artists who wish to produce limited edition prints of their work. Giclée printing enables artists to print on demand, and offer their work to a larger audience. Not only can artists offer signed, limited edition prints to patrons who may not be able to afford high-priced originals, but the increased visibility can increase the value of the original” Bellvue Fine Arts
Prints can be ordered directly through my studio and shipped both nationally and internationally.

The religious paintings on this page are being done for The Immaculate Heart Academy in Washington Township, New Jersey. The paintings are meant to depict events is the life of The Virgin Mary. I am attempting to have more than one incident happening concurrently.

“Flight into Egypt, Diaspora” 48″ x 72″
I want this panel to portray the political realities of the area of Judea during her lifetime and the journeys that a young couple was compelled to take to protect the life of a child. In all of the paintings for this project I would like to emphasize the extraordinary qualities of this young woman that are earthly and deeply human while including the divine as catalyst. I want to acknowledge that in her life to be called is one thing, saying yes is the miracle.

“Annunciation – Assumption” 48″ x 72″
The setting for this panel is partly mythical, emphasizing the events set into action by her acceptance of the call to bear a child, with the back lighting taking the shape of a cross as a means of foreshadowing . The architecture is taken from Ephesus, believed to be the historical home of Mary, in Turkey, where she would find exile after the death of her son.

“Child Lost-The Passion” 48″ x 72″
In this panel the story of Jesus being lost in Jerusalem at the Temple is happening in the foreground while his walk to the crucifixion is occuring in the background. Mary’s attention is to the child, an attempt to speak to her very human loss as a mother, incapable of watching the scene at the bottom of the hill.

Thanks to all who attended over the weekend, I had a great time. It is always so helpful to have to be articulate about one’s own work every now and again and wonderful to have such conversations occur in my own studio, as opposed to the floor of a gallery.
I am going to attempt to update the blog weekly, per request. Entries will include works in progress as well discussion of current art events and exhibits.
