“Flight into Egypt, Diaspora” 48″ x 72″

I want this panel to portray the political realities of the area of Judea during her lifetime and the journeys that a young couple was compelled to take to protect the life of a child. In all of the paintings for this project I would like to emphasize the extraordinary qualities of this young woman that are earthly and deeply human while including the divine as catalyst. I want to acknowledge that in her life to be called is one thing, saying yes is the miracle.

“Annunciation - Assumption” 48″ x 72″

The setting for this panel is partly mythical, emphasizing the events set into action by her acceptance of the call to bear a child, with the back lighting taking the shape of a cross as a means of foreshadowing . The architecture is taken from Ephesus, believed to be the historical home of Mary, in Turkey, where she would find exile after the death of her son.

“Child Lost-The Passion” 48″ x 72″

In this panel the story of Jesus being lost in Jerusalem at the Temple is happening in the foreground while his walk to the crucifixion is occuring in the background.  Mary’s attention is to the child, an attempt to speak to her very human loss as a mother, incapable of watching the scene at the bottom of the hill.
